"Yearning and Learning
The vision of Arlington Community Church is to grow in our faith in God by learning to serve him by serving those in our community. By reaching out to those in need in our community and surrounding areas through service projects we yearn for learning and growth in our faith, church and community.
Rev. A. David Paul, M.S., M.Div.
Allen “David” Paul was born in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where his family was, and is, very active in Westminster Presbyterian Church and Pittsburgh Presbytery. At age 9, after a family vacation with Rev. Dr. Hetz Marsh and his family, David proclaimed, “I want to be like him when I grow up!” This set an early course for his life, which remains his focus today.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE David earned his Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) in Psychology and Biology from Northeastern University in 1992. He played football for two years, worked in the field, became president of the psychology club and undergraduate curriculum committee, was published in Neuroscience, and taught Sunday School.
After college, David worked in various professional roles at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh while he also got involved in youth and young adult ministry at his home church. During this time, he was ordained as a lay Stephen Minister. Being promoted as high as he could without a graduate education, David then went on to Pressley Ridge where he began supervising therapeutic treatment homes for children. While at Pressley Ridge, David got his Masters degree (summa cum laude) in Counseling Psychology and Community Mental Health from University of Vermont’s Trinity College in 1997. With his new professional credentials, he then took on responsibilities as a therapist at Pressley Ridge.
GOD’S CALL: At a crossroads of leisurely making big bucks in private practice or going to seminary, with the support of his then new wife, David felt called to attend Princeton Theological Seminary. He received his Masters of Divinity in 2001 and is a PCUSA ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament. Over the past 15 years, David has ministered in large and medium sized churches as everything from an Associate Pastor for Family and Youth Ministry to Head of Staff. If David could put God’s Spirit in a can he’d love to write a book about how churches grow through diligently building disciple leaders, forming cozy small groups and getting our hands dirty in short-term hands-on mission. In addition to being an online adjunct of Clinical Counseling for Bellevue University, he is the founder of Triune C Counseling, Consulting and Coaching. David’s passion is serving other’s needs, developing trusting relationships, building on strengths to release weaknesses, uniting capabilities and celebrating every success.
